Hi there you amazing people. I just got home yesterday (Monday 7th March) from the Nannup Music Festival and the Cottars' performances were the highlight for me without a doubt. Such talent and musicianship makes my heart ache for my lost youth. I grew up on anglo-celtic music that used to have the folk clubs raising the rafters - in England and in Australia (you can probably tell I'm a baby boomer!). Anyone who sees The Cottars in concert and doesn't have their feet tapping, hands clapping, voices singing and eyes tearing at different times during the show should seek medical attention immediately. Fiona's sweet, beautiful, perfect voice in the ballads is what made me get my hanky out. If I wasn't such an ancient specimen, I'd have been trying to join in the step-dancing too. I am credited with starting the NMF in 1990 (when you were wee babes!) as the South-West Folk Festival (changed by the committee to Nannup Music Festival in 1993 - long story, check the NMF website for history), and the Cottars and Craig Werth were the 2 standout acts that took me back to the Folk Music roots which seem to have been lost in recent years (the festival is a great showcase for all kinds of music and this is not a bad thing). It's especially heart-warming to see a young group keeping the traditions alive - albeit with a wonderful modern style and sound which ought to appeal to all generations. I hope I'll see you again in the not too distant future. THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC!

I traveled to Nova Scotia by ship last fall. When I entered the visitor center a young lady was playing the tin whistle. I entered the store to inquire about a song I was familiar with called "Song for the Mira" and incredibly found out that the girls father had written the song. I bought a CD by the Cottars and have since learned to sing and play some of the other songs on the Cd. I am looking for a recording that you may be able to help me find. When we were there we attended a musical performance where we heard a song named, A Photo's Worth a Thousand Memories. I would like to sing it for my mothers funeral, but cannot find the recording anywhere. Please help.

First I wanna say that I really like your music, you're doing an awesome job making Celtic music "new". That said, I gotta say that I'm very disappointed as a fan that the Macgillivray's and the Mackenzie's are no longer together. I can understand having differences and probably not being able to get along are some of the things that might have led to the break up, that is your business and I respect that. What I find to be completely unacceptable AND unprofessional is the lack of details, and I mean ANY, that even hint at the reason for it. The one article I could find vaguely hinted that the Macgillivray (spelling) parents were tyrants, but that is hearsay. I humbly request that you please clarify this matter with your fans, it would mean a lot (and may even boost sales, especially if you can reconcile). And of course if I just completely missed the info I'm talking about, would you please point me in the right direction? Sincerely, Charles Leveque IV Memphis, Tennessee

Hi I'm an Irish-born songwriter living in Adelaide, South Australia and, as I don't perform live, I'm looking for groups or artists who may be interested in performing my songs. You may like one I have just added called The Harp on the Hill and it is the first one in the Song section at www.fatcity.com.au/deswade. It’s a tale of star-crossed lovers whose memory lives on in the music the wind makes through a grove of trees they once planted. There are samples of others there such as Oró Tír na nóg - about the magical Celtic Land of the Young – and Wings of Angels which has a line in the chorus in Gaelic. I have written other songs with strong Celtic themes such as The Sign of the Claddagh which is also on my site at www.myspace.com/deswadeaus. It was inspired by the ancient Celtic icon now seen in the Claddagh ring. This site looks a bit of a mess at the moment, but the songs play ok. Perhaps you, your friends or colleagues might be interested in listening to new, original material which has so far not been covered by other artists. Slán, Des Wade

We saw you on tour in 2008 at the Iowa Irish Festival in Waterloo. It was a great show and one of the numbers you did was a beautiful,(I think it was acapella) duet, "How Can I Keep From Singing". I've tried to stay abreast of your recordings since then to see if you've recorded that arrangement, but haven't found it. Do you still perform that song in concert and do you plan on recording it in the future? And, it would be great to see you back at the Iowa Irish Festival! ---Bob Crumley

I bought the Cottar's On Fire cd and there is a harp medley consisting of Planxty Irwin and The Water Rabbit. I have a friend who is learning the harp and she is very much interested in learning the tune, The Water Rabbit. Do you happen to have the sheet music for this tune, or do you know where it can be found for purchasing? If you could let me know that would be great. Thank you!

Hey Cottars, First off, I love your music, keep up the good work... :-) I play the celtic harp (26 strings), and ever since I heard your Celtic Harp Medley I've always wanted to play it. I already know the first half, the Planxty Irwin, but I do not know the name of the second piece. I believe that hearing the piece helped result in my chooseing to get a harp. So is there anyway I could get the sheet music for it, or at least the name of the piece? It really is one of the most beautiful harp pieces I've ever heard. Thanks alot and I Hope to hear from you! God Bless, ~Christa Henry

I was one of the lucky ones in attendance at your Whitehorse concert on March 12th. I never got a chance to meet you afterwards in the lobby, but what I wanted to say is thank you so much for coming up and carrying the torch for Celtic music in this country. I'm also a great fan of Dougie Maclean and of course the Chieftains, who I know are close to your heart too, whom you mentioned during your concert. You are an inspiration in the same way to me. Keep up the GOOD WORK. Best wishes to you all

What a great voice..I couldn't believe it when I first heard it...a really evocative and touching feel to the whole track. Then I found 'Yellow Ribbons'. It was favourite song of my father who died father who died a little over two years back. It really did bring tears to my eyes. I thank you for reminding me of him. I'm writing to ask if you're planning to tour the UK at all in the coming months/years....please say you are!! I'm truly looking forward to seeing you live. Anyways, my 6 year old daughter Anika LOVES the song ( as I and my wife) and we want to know what the name of it is, and do you have it on any of your CD's/ Also, do you sell Videos of your work? Your musical talents are tremendous! Would love to hear back from you with the song name . Thanks so much.. Joe Nastasiuk Miramichi, New Brunswick

Hi, I'm a freelance writer in Victoria and I'm trying to contact one or more members of The Cottars for an interview for a piece I'm writing on The Chieftains and their connections with Canadian musicians and performers. The piece is for Penguin Eggs, Canada's folk, roots and world music magazine, and I have a deadline of Aug. 1 (rather soon - unfortunately, the article was just assigned!). I've already interviewed Paddy Moloney and now want to get the perspective of performers from Canada who work with him and The Chieftains. Any chance of getting in touch with one or more members of the group in the next few days by phone or email? (I apologize for the short notice). I first heard your beautiful music on May 31/02 when you were interviewed on CBC Radio. I had to stop the car because I was so taken with 'Briar and the Rose' and 'Kitchen Racket'. I was also stunned to learn how young you are. Your talent is ageless and your youth will give you the energy to introduce yourselves to the world.

I have not been so excited about the quality of new music that I have come across in a long time. What you have created is absolutely wonderful. 'The Briar and the Rose' sent chills down my spine and gave me goose bumps. The clarity of the music and the quality of the young voice that sang the song were so lovely I actually cried!

I wish all of you enormous success.
 Faye Luxemburg-Hyam ~ absolutely enchanted

ENJOYED YOUR SONGS
I listened to you on CBC Radio this morning, and I must say how much I enjoyed your songs. It is truly difficult to believe that such young voices and personalities can sing so beautifully and with such expression! Keep up the good work.
Blaine Fotheringham

BROUGHT ME TO TEARS
I heard you on CBC and your music practically brought me to tears (which is rather awkward in the office, as you can imagine). Hope to catch you if you ever come to Vancouver.
Rahel Bailie BC

AWESOME
Just heard you on CBC. What can I say...just AWESOME!
Ernest Hanff

RISE TO STARDOM
Congratulations on your rise to stardom. Your love of music—and onstage fun—flows through your audiences, and even through our television! We love you and appreciate your talents. All the best in your upcoming schedule. The MacQuarries

YOU ARE GREAT
I saw you on TV for the first time a few days ago and I think you are GREAT!!! Yes, indeed, you are the up-and-coming stars of the future. Any plans to come to New Brunswick? I live in Fredericton and would love to hear you in person. Please keep up the good work. You are a credit to the Maritimes. Normand (Chrisa) MacDonald Fredericton, NB

TO ALLISTER:
Father Boutlier, our parish priest, spent about three years in Scotland. He told me that a friend of his was at Buckingham Palace for a social event. Guess what? The band was playing 'Out On The Mira'. Basil Ludlow Nova Scotia

SEE YOU AT THE STAN ROGERS FESTIVAL
Just wandered onto your site and had to send along my compliments to all of you on the wonderful television program that CBC did about you last week. It was terrific! You all come across as not just wonderful musicians but as wonderful kids too. I hope you will always enjoy making music as much as you do now.

We hope to see you perform at The Stan Rogers Festival in July. Until then, keep smiling! Corrine Harland Halifax, NS

MAGICAL EVENING
Just a few lines to let you know how very much we enjoyed your CD release party in Halifax. It was a magical evening, and we played the CD all the way back to Ontario. It is wonderful.

Wishing you continuing success and, as we say at our Folk Club: 'Thanks for Keeping the Tradition Alive'. Karl & Sandy Whelan Burlington, Ontario

AWESOME
Hi there. Saw your performance on Monday night at The Old Triangle. It was awesome!! Hope to see you again real soon. It was the best evening of music we spent in a long time. Congratulations! Joan & Allister MacLeod

SUPER-NOVAS
I never imagined that I might be writing a fan letter to a group which, if all their ages were added together, would total less than my own! We were delighted beyond words with the performance of band last Monday night. The Cottars are a veritable constellation of super-novas! When we first saw and heard Fiona & Ciarán perform for the Christmas show with The Barra MacNeils a couple of years ago, we thought they were phenomenal even then. Now, they are truly spectacular. The whole group exhibits a dynamic stage presence that radiates unbridled joy. During the entire time on stage, they were smiling, high-fiving, laughing, and obviously enjoying themselves immensely. Even if they were not so marvellously gifted as they are, it would have been a most memorable event just to watch them have fun.

The two wee girls were beyond brilliant. They have a really overwhelming 'WOW' factor. And the two young gentlemen far outshine most 13 and 14 year olds. The Cottars' CD is in constant play in our kitchen, and the selection of music chosen for it is excellent. How refreshing it is to hear old music polished up and made fresh and new again by the vitality of youth. Congratulations to everyone concerned for an outstanding performance, both on stage and on the CD. In years to come, we will be proud to boast that we were there for the introduction of The Cottars' first CD. It is most comforting to know that, because of your collective efforts, that the continued vitality of our Scottish/Irish culture is assured. Bob, Jill & Fiona MacKenzie Dartmouth, NS

QUITE A TREAT
It was great seeing The Cottars (in Halifax). Fiona's voice is marvellous, and that young Roseanne's fiddling is excellent for ANY age. Quite a treat to be able to see them perform. That song 'Briar and the Rose' and the Gaelic Sùilean Dubh' are among the most beautiful songs I have heard in many years. 'Moran taing. Bidh mi 'gad fhaicinn'. George Seto Halifax, NS

TOOK OUR BREATH AWAY !
We have seen your children on 'The Barra MacNeils' Christmas Special' and again with John McDermott, and they took our breath away on both occasions. John McDermott is predicting that they will have a very bright future, and we are happy to be included in the ever-growing number of fans who wish them every success and happiness! Our best to you all. Marlene McCracken Orléans, Ontario

YOU SHOULD FEEL PROUD
I am sitting here listening to your CD, which I bought following your performance in Wolfville on Saturday, and have played it over and over. Your voices are so clear and beautiful. Ken Bezanson has told me how special you are, and you should feel proud. I'll look forward to seeing you perform again. Lorna MacNeil Annapolis Valley

Fiona: Hello. Greetings from a cornfield in Ontario! I heard you and the rest of The Cottars being interviewed on the radio yesterday. To say the least, I was astounded at the talent you possess. CONGRATULATIONS!
A belated congratulations on the CD release, and the terrific reception that the quartet is receiving. We are pleased to have a signed copy of the CD, and enjoy the variety of music it offers. We so much enjoyed the group when we heard them at The Highland Village that cold December evening last year. We look forward to catching some of the concerts this summer. Nancy & Joe Gillis Halifax, NS

PHENOMENAL
I heard you for the first time today, May 31st, on a CBC interview. You are phenomenal!!!!!! I thought The Rankins had the clearest, purest voices I had ever heard, but I was wrong. I heard you sing 'Briar and the Rose' and, when I heard you laugh, Fiona, when it was over, I was amazed that you were so young. I will definitely be looking to purchase your CD. Thelma Cameron a new fan Atikokan, Ontario

WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE
Hey Fiona! I'm sending this e-mail to you on behalf of basically the whole of Thayer Academy—when I say 'thank you' for the wonderful performance that you and the rest of your group provided us. I usually don't enjoy 'traditional' music, but you and your group have changed my whole outlook. I hope to see you performing again soon, whether it be on our stage or on tv. Once again, thank you very much, and I wish you a successful career along with the rest of The Cottars.  Cathal Rooney Quincy, Massachusetts (USA)

BEAUTIFUL MUSIC
You delighted us with your beautiful music in August when we saw you at The Lunenburg Folk Festival. We are from Wisconsin so you were totally new to us. I bought your CD at the wharf there and play it continually. I hope you have another one in the making soon. Thanks for sharing your talents with the rest of the world. By the way, I am a granny and my 3 and 4-year old granddaughters love to 'dance' to your music. Judy Hable Wisconsin 54 TERRIFIC CD ! I'm looking for hints as to how to locate sheet music for 'Briar And The Rose' for my 84-year-old mother. She plays the piano and loves that piece sooo much!

Great musicians! Terrific CD. Barb Young

CHILLS THRU MY SPINE
I just wanted to take this time to let you know that the first time I actually saw you perform was on the ECMA Awards this year. My husband and I couldn't believe the talent you all have...and the song was INCREDIBLE, 'The Briar and the Rose'. I was in my home town this past weekend (which is in Cape Breton) and I was driving my van and your song came on. I couldn't get out of the van until the song was over. It sent goosebumps right thru me. I love it! And I am sure that I will hear more songs from your group that will do the same thing to me again. Keep up the GREAT work, and congratulations on your AMAZING talent! CJ Bowden

FROM YOUR BIGGEST FAN
Thank you very much for your note. I was so excited when I got home from school! I immediately phoned my friends. I can't wait to meet you. I hope my Mom gets me one of your CD's. My friend Taya is emailing you too. You are so cool. Sarah Steele Prince Edward Island

REALLY COOL
Hi! I saw you at a concert at Thayer Academy and you are all go good! It was really cool that you are all the same age as the students at our school and have already accomplished so much in your musical careers. It's amazing how you play your instruments with such enthusiasm and passion. Each and everyone of you is talented, whether it's on the guitar, fiddle, or piano. I hope to see you perform again sometime soon. Conor Leary Massachusetts, USA

INSPIRED ME
Omg !!!! You guys are so cool !! I can't wait to see you again. Your performance inspired me to sing my little heart out ! Well, I can't wait to see you again !! Rachel Marathas

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE
I just wanted to say that The Cottars are absolutely incredible, and the day I meet you guys I'm probably going to start crying. You guys are all great musicians. I play the fiddle, piano, guitar, and I sing—and you guys are all my idols. And my friends at school (who hate Celtic music) love you guys, and they all know who you are. YOU GUYS KICK CELTIC BUTT ! Christine Celtic musician

AWESOME ROLE MODELS
I have your CD and I listen to it like every night. Your music is a great get-away from Rap and R&B. To add to your talent, you four are awesome role models for me, and Fiona is my American Idol during my singing lessons. I just want to thank you girls and guys for your unbelieveable talent, hard work, personality, and strive. A. Kerner

YOUR GROUP IS AMAZING
“A comment on your performance in Freeport (USA) over the summer: your group is so good! You have become one of my favourite groups and your CD occupies my CD player constantly. I think that you all have a bright future ahead of you, and I really look forward to attending more of your performances. Keep up the good work! Your group is amazing.” Jessica Wakefield

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS MUSIC
I still cannot get over the absolutely gorgeous music you play. It really makes me so alive and whole that I just want to thank you. You four are talented and beautiful, and I look up to all of you as my role models. I cannot wait to see you again, and I will count down the days until your next concert pops up. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for filling my life with musical joy. Liz Tillotson

WHAT WONDERFUL MUSIC
Hi there, Cottars! Just picked up 'Made In Cape Breton' a couple of days ago. I've been playing it ever since! What wonderful music! You guys remind me why I fell in love with Celtic music. Maybe I'll catch you at The Calgary Folk Fest — would love to hear you live. Irena

BRIAR AND THE ROSE
Just wanted to share my recent experience with your music: I was sitting, having my lunch, when a short clip came on NTV of a young girl singing the most beautiful song called 'Briar and the Rose'. I love Celtic music and decided that I had to find out about this girl. So, I went to the music store and, after some searching, bought your CD. I listen to that song over and over, and can't get enough of it. You are so talented and have such a great future. I'm pleased to see you carrying on the Celtic tradition. I can't wait until you perform again in Southern Ontario. Mike Hughes Ontario

A FAVORITE OF OURS
Hello. I am the mom of the band members of Celtic Spring, a group from Ojai, California. We have known of you for the last two years and have hoped to cross paths sometime. We bought your CD this summer in Cape Breton, and it is a favorite of ours. Mary Wood Ojai, California (USA)

INCREDIBLE BEYOND DESCRIPTION
I have worn your CD out and I'm impressed by the calibre of your music. Yesterday, to say the least, I was blown away by your concert at the Capitol Theatre (Moncton, NB). The poise you showed was incredible! Your talent at such a young age is incredible beyond description, and I hope to be able to listen to a new CD soon. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon of music, poetry, and story. You have a great fan in me. Fr. Jeff Doucette Riverview, NB

A LOT OF TALENT
Hello Fiona. My husband and I were flipping channels last night and heard you singing so beautifully. We used to be professional musicians (Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra) and so we like to think that we have good ears. My husband remarked that it takes a lot of talent to perform such a slow, long song musically. I was quite taken by your performance and hope to hear much more! Martha and Wayne Nickoli London, Ontario

SIMPLY PHENOMENAL
I saw The Cottars in Savannah, Georgia. They were simply phenomenal !!! Alex Georgia, USA

WAS STUNNED
Hello Fiona. I was at your show in Denver, Colorado, and was stunned by how talented you and your brother and your friends were. I am 16 years old and am leaving for the army in January. Thank you and God Bless! Ben McSparren Colorado, USA

AMAZING
I listen to your cd 24/7, and I just wanted to suggest that you make another cd because I like your first one so much! My parents saw you perform and loved it! You are amazing! By the way, I'm 10 years old. Keep it up, Cottars Olivia

EXCELLENT
I enjoyed meeting everyone at The Muse At tThe Gray Goose on March 9th, 2003. The group performance was excellent! Your good wit and fun on stage was very enjoyable. I look forward to seeing you all again some day. Peggy Morrison

ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY
I just purchased the new CD On Fire yesterday and was absolutely blown away! I knew it was going to be hard to top the Made In Cape Breton CD, but you guys have done it. It far exceeded my expectations. The musicianship and vocals are absolutely amazing! I honestly can't pick a favourite song—they are all as wonderful as the next. I will be recommending this CD to anyone who will listen. Thank you for sharing this gift. Kim Victoria, BC

FOUR FABULOUS MUSICIANS
I first heard The Cottars when they performed at the Lotus World Music Festival in Bloomington, Indiana, last fall. We knew that the performers were all teenagers, but were surprised by their talent and skill on multiple instruments. They also stepdance! And what a fiddler! Roseanne is amazing. But that's not all: all four of the musicians are excellent and engaging. What a performance! The CD is wonderfully varied, alternating vocal selections and instrumentals. I absolutely love Fiona's voice. I agree with one of the reviewers whose favorite piece is 'Briar And The Rose, which Fiona sings with Ciarán on harmony. It's hauntingly beautiful. (My other favorite song on the CD is 'I Know Who Is Sick'; I love the drumming.)
Buy this CD and, if you ever have a chance to see The Cottars in concert, don't miss the opportunity to hear them live!
Reviewer, Bloomington, IN April 17, 2004

THEY'LL KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF
The Cottars have so much talent! The vocals are crystal clear, and the harmonies are close. The instrumentals are lively. It's just an all around great album. Can't wait for more. Reviewer, Moorhead, MN September 19, 2003

JUST INCREDIBLE—AND THEY KEEP GETTING BETTER
I first heard The Cottars when they were on tour with John McDermott. They stole the show! I've heard them many times since, and they keep getting better! My favorite song is 'The Briar and The Rose'. With Fiona in the lead and Ciarán adding a bit of harmony, it still brings tears to my eyes each time I hear it. And, you just have to see Roseanne (who just turned 13) fiddle and step-dance at the same time! WOW! Ciarán is really great on piano and whistles and guitar. And, Jimmy is a pro in his own right on guitar. This is a group to watch. I think they're going places. This is one of the most delightful CD's in my collection.  Rodon, Stoughton, MA March 25, 2003

JUST SO GOOD !!!
At the time they recorded this (i.e., 'Made In Cape Breton'), The Cottars were aged 14, 13, 12 & 11... but it doesn't matter to the results one way or the other. The singing and playing are just so good! All but two of the tracks are traditional, and some of the singing is in Gaelic. Lead singer, Fiona MacGillivray, has a perfect angelic voice — precise, clear, trnsparent, without a hint of children's choir, bel canto or blues-pop. The group can handle anything. The CD has slow 'sean nós' vocals on two tracks, jigs & reels, fast and boistrous, sentimental ballads — all performed perfectly and easily. Jim Allan, Toronto, ON January 6, 2003

BEST I'VE HEARD IN A WHILE
I was just blown away by their talent! The main vocalists, Fiona, sings a beautiful variety of songs. All the other band members are amazingly talented, especially the fiddler (Roseanne) who can dance and fiddle at the same time. I definitely recommend buying this CD. Reviewer, USA December 11, 2002

ENORMOUS TALENT
I learned about The Cottars through word-of-mouth. I decided to buy their album and, after listening to it, I'm blown away by the talent of these kids! Despite their young ages, they are polished performers. Fiona's vocals are charming. Roseanne's fiddling is incredible. And, the boys' accompaniment is a beatiful background for the songs. I prefer the slower vocal songs to the more lively reels. 'Scarlet Ribbons' with Fiona MacGillivray and John McDermott is probably my favourite piece on the album — although none of the tracks leaves any doubt that there is enormous talent there.
I look forward to the opportunity to see The Cottars in person. In the meantime, I'm just going to enjoy this lovely album. Reviewer, British Columbia September 16, 2002

THE MOTHER SHIP
I used to think of THE COTTARS as being a lifeboat for our Scottish/Irish/Cape Breton musical culture. Upon reflection, I have revised that opinion. Now, I am sure that they are the Mother Ship and will inspire others by their example. Robert MacKenzie Dartmouth, NS

I LOVE THE WHOLE CD ON FIRE
I just got my copy of 'On Fire' yesterday. I had no clue it was already in the stores. When my eyes spotted a bright red CD, I think I screamed when I saw it said 'THE COTTARS' on it !!! I love the whole CD; 'Ready For The Storm' is my total fav, though. I was so surprised that you included The Mummers Song or, as you call it, 'Calling On Song'. I used to sing that in Newfoundland when we would go mummering. I love 'Cape Breton Lullaby' too. I hope you make a Music Video. Hope to see ya in concert soon. Rory NS

UNBELIEVABLE
Fiona: I'm writing this from Ireland, as that is where I live. All around me there is Celtic music all the time: in my grandparents' or grand-aunt's or uncles; houses, on TV, and of course in the local pubs. But, when I heard your CD, it was unbelievable. Your voice is so amazing, and I just fell in love with the CD.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that you have fans on THIS side of the Atlantic, as well as on your own side. Keep singing; you're excellent. Aisling Ireland

MOST IMPRESSED
I am just listening to your most recent CD, 'On Fire', and I am most impressed. I enjoyed your first CD ('Made in Cape Breton') immensely, but you folks have matured beyond your years. I am also impressed with the recognition that you give to the legends of the music, in particular The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem. I send my good wishes to all of you and continued success with your musical careers. The music is safe when youngsters like yourselves come along and show such dedication. Great job! Hughena MacDougall Dundee, NS

UNBELIEVABLY TALENTED
My name is Jean Marie, and I am an Irish dancer in Savannah, Georgia. In 2003, you and your band performed at St. Vincent's Academy and the Tara Feis. I'm writing to tell you that you are all unbelivably talented. I love you! Thank you so much for coming. I have a new favorite band. Jean Marie

SO REFRESHING
We attended your concert at The Grand Theatre in Kingston (Ontario) on March 12th, 2004. It was wonderful. You are all so very talented, and you also have a very good stage presence. We wish you all the success in the world. It is so refreshing to hear our youth keeping alive the traditional music of our ancestors.
By the way, Ciarán: you have amazing keyboard skills.
We look forward to the release of your new CD. Ron and Marilyn Murray Napanee, ON

TIMELESS
I am probably the only person driving around in the Middle East with your CD 'Made In Cape Breton' wafting from my car CD-player. It is brilliantly crafted, energetic and TIMELESS. I hope we can get to see The Cottars 'live' during one of our trips back home. Good luck and God bless. Michael & Carol Ann MacKinnon Dubai, United Arab Emirates

THANK YOU !!
I still cannot get over the absolutely gorgeous music you play ! It really makes me so alive and whole, I just want to thank you: Ciarán, Fiona, Jimmy and Roseanne. You four are talented and beautiful, and I look up to you all as my role models.
I cannot wait to see you again, and I will count down the days until your next concert pops up. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for filling my life with musical joy ! Liz Tillotson

MATCHLESS
I have to tell you that the concert (at the Rebecca Cohn) was a high point in our year. Jack O'Donnell's intro was a fine kick-off and, as for the performance, it was matchless. There was something moving, amusing, stirring, entertaining, virtuosic, and downright applealing going on at every moment. We thought the programming was beautifully laid out, and the engaging — and so casually adlibbed — remarks of the performers tied it together in an easy flow. Though we love your CD, there is a huge extra dimension in live performance — and the audience reaction was so warm. Again, thanks so much. Oidhche mhath. Jim Bennet Halifax, NS

SIMPLY STUNNING
“Having just heard your rendition of ‘The Briar And The Rose’ — literally in the last 10 minutes! — I had to write and thank you. I’m passionate about the music of Tom Waits, and have been tracking down as many interpretations of his as possible. Your version of this song is simply stunning, and moving beyond words. Once more, thank you.”

 Jim Williams Staffordshire, England

MARVELLOUS
'On Fire' is marvellous. Too bad Wade Hemsworth isn't around to hear 'The Wild Goose'. Ciarán has probably done for that song what Fiona did for 'Briar And The Rose'.” Jack MacNeil Big Pond, NS

MOVED TO TEARS
“Fiona: I saw you and The Cottars on CBC last night (July 1st/04). I was moved to tears by your incredibly crystal clear, beautiful voice and the kind of songs you sang. I am glad that you are all so young because it means that you will be touching Canadians (and the rest of the world) with your music for a very long, long time to come! All my best for a long and happy career on stage. I know it will be successful. And now, I will jump on my bike and cycle to the CD store to get 'Made In Cape Breton'.” Carolann Glover Roberts Creek, BC

ENCHANTED
“Fiona: I just bought your new CD 'On Fire' today, and I haven't been able to stop listening to it! The first song, 'Ready For The Storm', is absolutely amazing! I am enchanted by your beautiful voice! Please keep the CD's coming. And please — never stop singing. You keep our heritage alive!”  Cristen Young Halifax, NS

SWEETEST SOUND
Fiona: I've been looking for you and/or your music since I saw the end of a Public Television promotion in the US probably over a year ago. I never caught the name or I couldn't remember the name of the group — but I will never forget the sound! Your the sweetest sound that I have heard in a VERY long time.
 John Reid

MELTING HEARTS LIKE MINE
Fiona: As I settled in to a relaxing evening of the ECMA's (2005), I had no idea what was coming. I am sixteen years old and am a very calm and collected individual. I never let things get to me and I always deal with emotional impulses rationally — until you went and shattered my defences. Honestly, your voice just pierced right through me in a way that no-one else's ever has and, for that, you get my heart-felt congratulations. Keep up the excellent work and have fun melting hearts like mine along the way. Thank you again for your moving preformance. If everyone in the world could only sit down for a few minutes and take in your magnificant voice, we might all be able to lighten up and get along. Aaron Saskatchewan

SENSATIONAL & INSPIRING
I wanted to tell you how much my family & I enjoyed your performance this past Saturday (May/05) at The Family Music Festival in Chestnut Ridge. We had come to see Tom Chapin, so it was a fantastic bonus to discover The Cottars and your music. Your performance was sensational and inspiring. I've also been listening to and enjoying the 'On Fire' CD I bought Satuday. I like all of the music, and I just love the opening song, 'Ready For the Storm'.
Thank you again, and I will keep an eye on your tour page to see if you will be playing in the New York/New Jersey area. Rob Nussbaum New York

OUR FAVORITE MUSICIANS
Four family members — including my wife, daughter, son-in-law and myself — drove from Maine on Sunday, May 22/05, to Fredericton for an evening of GREAT music by our favorite musicians, THE COTTARS. You guys were great, as always. Hey, when are you going to be in an area for us to see you again? You can tell we don't mind driving to listen to our COTTARS! Art & Jeanne Totman Maine, USA

U R MY IDOL
My name is Katrina Currie. I am 13 years old and love the Gaelic language. I saw you show last nite, May 22/05, at The Playhouse in Fredericton. I was sitting on your right-hand side in the first row and you stared at me almost the whole concert! I LOVE U. U R my idol. I have now taught myself how to tap, and I am trying to get some money for a fiddle! Thanks for a great show!! Katrina Currie New Brunswick

YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING

I WAS TOTALLY AMAZED
Hi Guys. I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your show last week in Fredericton, NB (2005). I was totally amazed by your performance. OUTSTANDING!!! I'm sure that everyone who was there that night felt the same. Keep up the great work. With talent like we were treated to that evening, there are definitely great things to come from all of you.  Carolyn Gallant New Brunswick

GREAT ENTERTAINERS
I have to tell you that the group did a fantastic job. You quickly forget that they are teenagers. Their musicianship, harmonies and rapport with the audience is exceptional. They are more than great musicians — they are great entertainers! I've talked to many people in the last week who all agreed it was one of the best shows to come to SAERC in years. Looking forward to seeing them again. Bob  Port Hawkesbury

When ya'll came to The Banner Series in Lake Charles, LA, I went and saw the show and it was amazing! I was stunned when I saw how young and talented ya'll were. I love my CD; just can't get enough of it. I hope ya'll come back soon. It was great. Emilee L. Lake Charles, Louisiana (2005)

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING
I heard your music on NPR this past Saturday and I fell in love. When I heard that you were going to perform at The Heymann Center in Lafayette, I had to go. I am so glad that I did! Your performance was absolutely stunning! I was entranced. Please come back as soon as you can! J. Matthews Lafayette, Louisiana (2005)

INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE
Hello from McNeese State. I'm a student here who attended your concert in The Banners Series. What an incredible performance! I'm a long-time Irish music fan, and I'm so glad that I had the privilege of hearing you guys! Bravo! Angela Louisiana, 2005

YOUR SHOW WAS OUTSTANDING
My son and I saw you at Johnny D's in Somerville, MA, this week. Your show was outstanding, and your stage presence VERY impressive. We both loved the show. You should consider making a DVD; a CD does not fully capture the excitement of your performance! B. Kirchner Massachusetts (March, 2005)

AMAZING WORK
Hey Fiona: I just gotta say that I'm a really big fan of The Cottars. And I had to write to you and say that you have the best voice out there for singing! It's amazing! You really know how to give it your all. Like, I remember a couple of years ago at The East Coast Music Awards, when you sang 'The Briar and the Rose', you made my mom come to tears! Well, keep up the amazing work with the band! Alysha M. Glace Bay, NS

HERE'S TO SONG
I heard The Cottars on BBC Radio Scotland about two weeks ago. I think the track they played was 'Here's To Song' from the 'Made In Cape Breton CD. I was so impressed that I ordered the CD. It arrived and has become an immediate favourite! I've played it several times, especially 'Here's To Song'. I just love it! I didn't realize how young you are! You must receive thousands of e-mails like this one but please pass on the thanks, admiration and congratulations of an old guy in Edinurgh to what must be some of the youngest, most talented and promising musicians in the world.
 Arthur Edinburgh, Scotland

AMAZINGLY TALENTED GROUP
Hello Cottars: Just this past August, I had the opportunity to see you play a show at the Irish Festival in Dublin, Ohio. I got a chance to talk to you and compliment you then, but I wanted to do so again via e-mail because I was so very impressed by your performance. I took a couple of friends with me who had never heard the music before (hell, one of em's not even Irish!) and they loved it. It was definetly worth the three-hour trip! I actually got the chance to see you guys play again in Ann Arbor, Michigan later that month. And I'm absolutely thrilled about the announcement of a third album! Congrats!

You four truly are an amazingly talented group and you deserve every good mention of it. Ciaran, you really do a good job of keeping the audience involved with your jokes, solo 'Right Field' bit and, of course, your excellent playing of guitar and piano. Fiona, I do not think I have ever heard a voice as beautiful or lovely as yours. I was truly awe-struck by 'The Cape Breton Lullaby'. Jimmy, you're an awesome guitar player, truly. And Roseanne, out of all the fiddle players I have seen, you've played with more energy and grace than any of them combined. You knocked us off our feet.

The standing ovations that we've given you have been more than well-deserved. You are all outstanding! It'shard to describe the good feeling we all left that first show with. I had been waiting a year to see you play ever since I first heard the Cape Breton album and, after waiting a year, patience paid off to the fullest of extents. I have never seen a better live performance. On top of that, you have influenced
me musically as well. I've been learning some folk guitar as well as tin whistle, bodhran, and piano. So I must say I have a deep respect for all of you and what you are doing. Thank you!

From a college kid — and true fan!
Ryan Gannon Ohio

OUTSTANDING SHOW
I attended your concert at The Bromfield School this evening. I would like to compliment the group on an outstanding show. I truly enjoyed it and will be attending future events. Chris Butler November/05

LOVE YOUR MUSIC
Hi Cottars! I love your music and I hope that you come again to Harvard. Right now I am listening to your music and I feel very relaxed and very calm. I love your singing and dancing, and I think Ciarán has the funniest stories. J. Symula November 2/05

MIRACULOUS
I have just seen the guest appearance you did on the PBS Channel TV show 'Zoom In America', and was so compelled by your talent and by the amazing magic of the Gaelic traditions. I am sure that you are quite busy with your beautiful music but, as a new fan, I wish to tell you personally how miraculous I think you are. Thank you for presenting the world outside Nova Scotia with the grace and power of your music.  Alyssa August 7, 2005

WONDERFUL MUSICIANS
My lady and I got to listen to and meet you for a bit here in Grass Valley (California). We think you are wonderful musicians and nice kids — mature beyond your years. And we hope to hear your music for years to come and to see your faces in town from time to time. God's blessings, continued success, and please come back! C Hazen October 6, 2005

WHAT A SHOW!
I just watched your show tonight at the Napa Valley Opera House and WOW! What a show! The four of you are fantastic! I'm so impressed with your talent, presence, and versatility. I was completely entertained for the entire show. I would love to know if you will be coming back to California next year. I'd drive to see your show again. Angie U. October, 2005

SPECTACULAR
I just saw you last night at Longwood Gardens. You are spectacular, and I hope that you can return to this area whenever you can. I wish you great success — you're very talented. A Fan August 3, 2005

IMPRESSIVE
My wife and I attended The Kansas City Irish Fest and were lucky enough to catch your show on the Main Stage on Sunday. What a show! We spent the whole day at The Irish Fest. We saw many bands on many stages. Your band was by far the most impressive. Thank you so much for coming to Kansas City. I hope that you enjoyed your stay as much as we enjoyed your music. Please come back!!!! P. Jones Kansas City, September 5, 2005

AMAZED
I saw you perform at The Ark (Michigan). I thought it was great how you included the audience; it made it even more fun. I'm amazed at how talented you are! You did a great job. (Even my dad had an awesome time — and he doesn't usually listen to Celtic music.) I loved all of your solos; they seemed really difficult to do. Shannon Michigan, September 7, 2005

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE
During the winter, I heard you guys playing on 'Good Morning Canada'. I was stunned and was extremely envious. Your musical talent and the soul that you put into your work was outstanding. I just heard you guys plat at Summerfolk and you were absolutely incredible. After waiting all evening in the rain, you certainly made it all worthwhile! B. Ferenczy August 20, 2005

AN INSTANT FAN
I saw you perform for the first time at The Kansas City Irish Fest over the weekend. You've made an instant fan out of me. You guys are really great. I was disappointed that your CD's sold out at the Fest (that's good for you, though). It really says something about how everybody loved your music. I'll just order it online. Thanks for the two great shows I saw! L. Hawkins Missouri, September 7, 2005

FABULOUS CONCERT
I just came from a fabulous Cottars concert at The DeCoste Centre in Pictou. You are just a great group of musicians, and everyone enjoyed the concert tremendously. B. MacDonald August 13, 2005

BLOWN AWAY
Wow! I just saw you play with the Chieftains in San Rafael, CA tonight and I was blown away. You guys were incredible. All I could keep thinking was that you were my age (17) and I could not believe that you already had three albums! I loved the music, voices, fiddling, piano, guitar, dancing, and a beautifully spunky stage presence. Amazing, just amazing! I hope to be listening to you for years to come. Micaela San Rafael, CA (USA), Jan. 27, 2006

JUST BRILLIANT!
Lovely. Saw you with the Chieftains in Austin, Texas, last Sunday night. Just brilliant! What gifts you all have! Michele Frazier Austin, Texas, January 27, 2006

AMAZING TALENT
I saw you with the Chieftains last night in Albuquerque, NM and was very impressed. You have amazing talent. I just purchased some of your CDs. Blessings! Dee Meier New Mexico, January 27, 2006

AMAZING TALENT
Saw you all in Albuquerque with The Chieftains, and you were great! You looked like you were having a good time and it showed. It's always a treat to see such amazing talent from ones so young. Wishing you the best of luck, your new fan: Elliott Rogers New Mexico, January 27, 2006

PERFECTION, IN MY BOOK
Ever since 'Waterlily' was playing on my favorite internet station (RadioAcoustic) only yesterday, I must have listened to the song about a thousand times by now! What's there to say? Fiona's glass-like voce, the group's goosepimple close harmony, the well-balanced instrumental arrangements, the weeping mood-setting violin. This all adds up to perfection in my book. In the meantime, I got impressed by your bios as well. What an amazing group of fine young people you are indeed, to elaborate on this genre of music! Thank you for the music, and please go on and have success — and someday visit Europe. Gerrit Vanoppen January 29, 2006

Fiona: WOW — I just have to say that, seriously. I have The Cottars other two CD's and finally got the spare time to pick up 'Forerunner' — and just WOW! Each CD gets better and better. Your voice — it's amazing, so so good — and the fiddle. I would just like to congratulate you and your band members on putting out another amazing CD. And please, on your next tour, come to Edmonton. Please! I would kill to see you guys live.  Duncan I. Edmonton, AB

YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!
I saw you with The Chieftains in Seattle, Washington. WOW!! You guys are great! I liked you so much that I went out and bought all 3 of your CD's at intermission, and I listened to one of them on the way home. You have a great future in front of you. Please come back to Seattle. I would definitely be there. Thanks to you and The Chieftains for a wonderful evening. Delain Seattle, WA (February 1, 2006)

WAS ASTONISHED
Today on the internet I listened to some pieces of your new album, and I must say I was astonished. The sound is beautiful! It is certain I'm going to buy this CD. Here in the Netherlands it is already for sale (lucky I am !). Especially I like the song 'Pat Works On The Railway'. It is such an old famous song from the past...
I think your family would be very proud to have such great musicians in the family. As a matter of fact, I really like to listen to Celtic music. At home I have many CD's of The Chieftains. I understand you'll be on tour with The Chieftains, and I wish you lots of success. I hope you'll be planning to produce a DVD in the future (perhaps together with the Chieftains?). I'd really like to see you playing, singing and dancing!
Keep on making music. Marco Metselaar The Netherlands

ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING ALBUMS
I am so excited that your tour with The Chieftains is bringing you to Washington D.C.! I have always been a huge fan of The Chieftains, however my main reason for attending this show is definitely you folks! Your previous two albums, which are cherished elements to my c.d. collection, are wonderful and show your amazing talent. But 'Forerunner' is one of the most amazing albums I have ever had the privilege to hear. I must admit that 'Send Me A River' is my favorite off of the album, along with 'Hold On'—yet the album as a whole is without a doubt magical and remarkable, to say the least! You all rock!!! Kevin D. Washington, DC (Mar./06)

YOU GUYS BLEW US AWAY!
Saw The Chieftains last night (March 09/06) with you all as the special guest! WOW! You guys blew us away! Great music, great voices, great dancing! Made fans out of us! THANKS!Terrence C. State Theatre, New Jersey (2006)

AMAZING ... INCREDIBLE!
OK, NOW I'm, excited! We just received 'Forerunner' and absolutely LOVE it! The instrumentals are amazing and the vocals are incredible. We play it at work, we play it at home — and everywhere in between! Thank you SO much. Ken & Debby R. Hansville, WA (USA), March 1/06

YOU HAVE AN AMAZING VOICE!!!
Fiona: I live in a small, cold town in Quebec; it's about an hour from Montreal. I'm 16 and I love your music so much that I just recently went out and bought your 'Forerunner' CD. YOU HAVE AN AMAZING VOICE!!! Like, seriously, your voice is my favourite voice of everyone on earth! Take care, your #1 fan.  Athena Quebec (Can.), Feb. 28/06

WONDERFUL MUSIC
Thanks for all the wonderful music. We have enjoyed Allister's songs for many years, and are so happy to see The Cottars doing so well. We have been great fans since seeing them perform last fall at The Celtic Colours Festival. (The tribute to Allister was an unforgettable evening!) We'd love to see The Cottars come to Boulder/Denver on their next western US tour!!! God Bless. R. Walsh Colorado (USA), Feb. 22/06

THE PERFECT PACKAGE
Just a note of thanx for a most enjoyable weekend of music at Milwaukee's Irishfest (2006). For my part, as a performing musician myself, I can genuinely appreciate all that you do. Your skills and talents, stage presence and engagement certainly are the perfect package to present such fine music. It was — and will hopefully continue to be — an on-going blessing for even more audiences yet to come. Z. Stardust Milwaukee, WI (USA)

A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE
I just wanted to write to personally thank you all for putting on such wonderful performances at The Milwaukee Irish Fest this year. I was so happy when I found out you were appearing there, as I go every year. I attended your Friday and Saturday shows. In fact, I saw you for the first time at The Irish Fest a few years ago and so much enjoyed your performance then and became an instant fan.

I especially like the versatility of your performances, that each one of you was featured playing or vocalizing, with both slow and faster numbers. I guess I liked the best Fiona's singing on 'The Briar and The Rose' on Friday in the tent. You could have heard a pin drop when the song ended. It certainly gave me chills! I didn't know she could play the tin whistle so well too. But all of you were wonderful, and I liked the occasional added humor too.

My only complaint is that you don't get around to the Midwest more often. I live in the Chicago area and saw you perform with The Chieftains earlier this year (I wish you had done more songs!), and also at the Chicago Celtic Fest a couple of years ago. But I sure wish you'd perform around here more often. (Or maybe I need to travel to Nova Scotia sometime to see you perform there?) Anyway I hope you consider more performances around Chicago in 2007. We have a few great festivals besides the Celtic Fest where I'm sure you'd be more than welcome. One of my Chicago favorites is the Heritage Center's Irish Festival in July, where The Makem and Spain Brothers perform just aboutn, I'll be watching for you. Thanks again and best wishes for the future. R. Ramey Chicago, August/06

THE CLARITY OF YOUR VOCALS
Cottars: I thoroughly enjoyed your set at Irish Fest in Milwaukee (August, 2006). I also enjoyed your CD. I especially would like to compliment you on the clarity of your vocals. I know you've been to Chicago. Come on back! There are hundreds of Celtic music fans here who'd love to hear you play. Craig B. Chicago, IL

GAVE ME GOOSE BUMPS!
Fiona: We saw you at Irish Fest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (2006). It was the first time we saw your group and were quite impressed. You sang a song with your brother about a rose. What is the name of that song? It was beautiful and gave me goose bumps! We hope you will be performing at Irish Fest in the future.  Rhonda A. September 9, 2006

ARRANGEMENTS FANTASTIC
Hi Guys: Just found your music on the net …amazing!!!!!!! I have been playing the accordion for about 30 years or more and play in a ceilidh/folk band with a couple of mates. Your arrangements of some of the old stuff are fantastic, and I have to say, Fiona, that your vocals make the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Beautiful. We live in the Stirling area of central Scotland where there is a fairly lively folk scene, but we could do with hearing more of your work. Is there any chance of you guys visiting Scotland in the future to tour, or perform at the Celtic Connections in Glasgow? Anyway, all the best and hope to hear you one day. E. Kidd Stirling, Scotland

SOME OF THE GREATEST
I have two CD's of The Cottars. I believe they are some of the greatest singers & musicians in North America — maybe even the world! I have a passion for music, and especially Newfoundland, Maritime, folk, and Celtic music. Again, The Cottars are one of the greatest groups. Many thanks & God Bless. J. Emberley Joe Batts Arm, Newfoundland (2006)

NEW ADDITIONS TO THE GROUP
Hello: We took in your show last night, 16 Nov/06, at The Playhouse in Fredericton — fantastic! Such talent and energy -- unrivalled. I was also deeply impressed with the new additions to the group. Bruce Timmons is one of those rare musicians who likes the back of the stage, but easily rivals those in the front. Additionally, Claire's fiddle rounds out the Celtic sound with a Cape Breton flair.  Come back to Fredericton soon, so us transplanted Cape Bretoner's from Sydney Mines and Little Bras d'Orcan get another chance to see you 'live'. Dave and Lynn Gillan Fredericton, NS

ONE OF THE BEST
What can I say about The Cottars?.  First, I must to say — forgives me for the English — I am from Brazil, and I just want to say that The Cottars is one of the best band that I heard. I have all the cd´s,and I am waiting more. Just want to be thankful by the songs you compose, by the violins, the flutes and all more. Thanks by all. Adriano Miguel Brazil

GREAT SHOW LAST NIGHT!
Hi Bev and Allister:I just wanted to pop a note to let you know that the group received at least 3 standing ovations last night here in Victoria! It was a wonderful, warm performance.Tonight we're looking at an audience of 500 !! Should be a spectacular show. I thought I'd take a moment to let you know not only how well-received the new band is, and especially what great kids you have!  They are both -- and Claire too! -- atotal delight to host and get to know as people. Just wanted to give you another moment to be proud parents!!  The Cussons Nanaimo, BC

AMAZING & REFRESHING
Hello from Seattle:My son and I would like to thank you for a great performance this past weekend in Victoria (April/2007). My son, Dakota, could not stop talking about how much he enjoyed the concert. He has been taking percussion lesson for about 2 years now, and he is going to ask his instructor if he can star to teach him about the bodhran. I truly felt that taking him to this concert opened his eyes to the wonders of music. He has always been into music, but this past weekend lit a larger fire within him.  My wife and I have always tried to expose him to various types of music and live performances, but this performance seems to have struck a cord with Dakota. To see the energy, genuine emotion Ciaran, Fiona, Claire and Bruce was amazing and refreshing. I hope they continue with their works and hopefully come to Seattle or the Pacific Northwest environs again soon.Again, thank you for your music, stories and time. Jeff and Dakota Rash Seattle, WA

GOD'S MUSIC
“I bought your 'Forerunner' cd today, and I have to tell you I love your music! I'm a big fan of Celtic folk music & Celtic music in general. Your music & voices are a breath of fresh air. Please tell me when you'll next be in the Boston area (I am originally from there), or possibly even in the Phoenix, Arizona, area.   By the way, I ordered your first 2 cd's just to enjoy the earlier you.  Continue to play 'God's Music'. Paul Boston, May/07

Just Gorgeous! Hi there. I came upon your cd 'Forerunner' by coincidence when I was looking for a birthday present for my sister, who loves irish folk music. I was curious and, before giving it to her, I listened to it and was instantly taken by it! The voice of Fiona so pure, the instrumental accompaniment so light-footed and a very successful mixture of traditional and modern elements. it's just gorgeous! When will you becoming to Germany?? Marion Hamburg, Germany/2007
